Pocket of Serenity began with a conversation.
I was talking with a therapist friend who offered classes in Jewish ritual work. As a Jewish woman I told her I wished there were more resources for Jewish rituals which were female positive and earth honoring. I found many of the traditional practices male-oriented and too intellectual to really resonate.
I suggested that my friend consider writing a book. She laughed and said the last thing we need are more books. What she wanted were resources that were hands-on...that emphasized jumping in and DOING the rituals. Rather than sitting and studying them.
This got me thinking about recipe cards. What if I could create "recipe" cards for rituals? My friend loved the idea and offered ideas for rituals I might use. I got to work right away on creating a prototype and this was the beginning of Pocket of Serenity.
The name, Pocket of Serenity, came to me while I was taking a walk. I thought about how the cards are intended to be mobile and to be used anywhere. They are meant to offer a "pocket of serenity" for busy people. To make it easy to find ten-minutes in their day to pause, reconnect to themselves, and reset.
In my experience, finding inner peace; reconnecting to our values and to who we are is one of the most empowering things we can do for ourselves and our communities. It's easy to get pushed and pulled by cultural priorities which are often design to get us to "go along" rather than champion what we care most about.
The products offered by Pocket of Serenity are simple and accessible but they are also surprisingly powerful and empowering. I hope that every person who uses our products receives encouragement, peace, and a greater sense of how much they matter in our world.
